A just released two-year study proves that the cholesterol drug Zetia does indeed lower your cholesterol. However, it does nothing to protect you from heart disease. In fact, the drug may actually contribute to heart disease! That is because the study suggests the drug may increase plaque build-up!
But this story gets even worse. Not only is this drug a death trap, but Merck repeatedly missed deadlines for reporting the results of this study. Cardiologists around the world were waiting for the results. Steven Nissen, chairman of cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic said the results were shocking.
While the drug company sat on its hands, millions of patients continued to take a drug that raised their risk of heart attack and exposed them to other side effects.
Had Congress not pressured Merck into disclosing the findings, I do not think the drug company would have ever revealed the results.
Merck, once again, has showed the corruption in Big Pharma. I wonder how much profit they raked in during the delay. And I wonder how many people died of a heart attack thanks to the drug. We may never know.
