Popular Vitamin Prevents Breast and Colon Cancer

Did you know theres a popular vitamin that can prevent up to 350,000 cases of breast cancer every year? Its true. But that is not all this vitamin can do. It can also prevent up to 250,000 cases of colon cancer each year.

That is right! A new study says higher levels of vitamin D might make your breasts less dense. That means less active mammary tissue and less cancer risk.

This study on cancer was the first to utilize satellite determination of cloud cover in countries where researchers measured serum levels of vitamin D. The researchers found that less cloud cover means fewer cases of both breast cancer and colon cancer. Remember, the sun is a major source of vitamin D, as it helps your body produce the nutrient.

Ive been recommending that you get your vitamin D level checked. Indeed, in my own family, in late winter, both my wife and I were very low. Even in summer, I am finding people with suboptimal levels.

Protective effects of vitamin D begin when 25-hydroxyvitamin D (the main test of vitamin D status) levels range from 24 to 32 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml). In the United States, late winter 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels averaged from 15 to 18 ng/ml. That is not enough for good protection. The researchers said that raising levels to 55 ng/ml is actually optimal to prevent cancer.

The low sun season is already here. I do get outdoors a lot. But considering my rather low levels last March, I take 5,000 units of vitamin D every day, even in the summer. I think that the majority of my readers should consider the same. Not only might it protect you against cancer, but also the flu and a host of both acute and chronic problems. And, I know of no downside to this dose. You can order vitamin D from Advanced Bionutritionals.
