I just showed you how CoQ10 is great for your eyes. And you already know that CoQ10 is great for your heart. In many cases, it can single-handedly prevent heart failure. And it can spare you the ravages of a heart attack. But did you know that theres a simple way to make CoQ10 protect your heart (and maybe even your eyes) even better? Heres how…
Heart failure is a condition where your heart cannot pump sufficient blood. The muscle becomes weak and cant perform at its optimal levels. There are many causes of heart failure. For instance, a heart attack can wipe out enough muscle that what remains just cannot do the job. Viral infections or other inflammation can damage the muscle cells. Or your heart cells simply may not produce enough energy for a multitude of reasons (including oxygen starvation). Whatever the cause, the goal is to get as much energy production from viable heart cells as possible.
In a recent study, researchers wanted to find out the effect of the nutrient carnitine on heart failure. They used a randomized and double blind study, which is the best kind. They divided 62 patients into two separate groups. One group took CoQ10 (270 mg daily) and l-carnitine (2,250 mg daily) for 12 weeks. And the second group took a placebo.
The supplemented group showed marked reductions in serum inflammatory chemicals. They had significant improvements in their shortness of breath, palpitations, and fatigue. They exercised better as well. These are all signs that the heart cells produced more energy with the two supplements.
The nice part about this study is that the researchers used a relatively small amount of CoQ10. Because they did not use extremely high doses, we know the carnitine is effective. If you have any heart problems at all, I strongly suggest you add at least 500 mg four times a day of carnitine to your supplement regimen.
