More Proof That You Can Prevent Cataracts

You may have heard that cataracts are a sign of aging. But you are not destined to lose your eyesight. More and more research indicates cataracts are a sign of a poor diet. I told you in March that you can prevent cataracts simply by reducing your carbohydrate intake. A study showed that if you are in the highest third of carb intake (>200 grams/day), your risk of cataracts will increase by almost 250% over those in the lowest tertile (<185 grams/day).

Now there is more proof that diet can keep your eyes healthy. A new study in women health professionals showed that if you are in the highest quintile of fruit and veggie intake, you have a 10-15% lower risk of getting cataracts.

While cataract surgery can work wonders in advanced cases, I do not know anyone who wants to go through it. Its much better to prevent them in the first case. And all you have to do is reduce your refined carb intake and increase your vegetable and fruit intake. It is that easy!
