I probably get more inquiries about natural ways to prevent blood clots than any other cardiology question (except cholesterol, of course). In the past, Ive told you about nattokinase and many other ways to prevent blood clots. But now I am going to tell you about the easiest preventive ever.
Preventing clots is important for everyone, but especially for women. Women are naturally at higher risk of blood clots than men. Estrogen is a prime risk factor for them. And a new study shows this easy – and inexpensive – treatment works wonders on women.
In this study, the researchers followed nearly 40,000 women aged 45 and older. They followed the participants clinically and with blood tests for clotting factors.
The researchers randomized the volunteers into two groups. On alternating days, they gave the women 600 IU of natural vitamin E or a placebo. Then they followed the women for 10.2 years. Now that is a comprehensive study. Its not the 12 weeks of Pharma fairyland drug studies.
The results were impressive. The women taking vitamin E had a 21% reduced risk of all clots and a 27% reduced risk of unprovoked clots compared to the placebo group. Unprovoked clots mean no recent surgery, trauma, or cancer. Even more impressive is that women who had prior clots had a 44% reduced risk taking vitamin E. If you have had one clot, you are more likely to get another.
But it gets even better. Factor V Leiden is a hereditary condition carrying an increased risk of clotting. These high-risk women saw their risk of clots reduced by 49%.
The authors concluded that vitamin E can reduce the risk of clots, and especially in those with a genetic risk.
Action to take: Preventing blood clots is important. In those with a past history, or a genetically thick blood, its crucial. Atrial fibrillation is also a predisposing factor. Here you see vitamin E does protect from clots. I would not rely on it all by itself. Alone its not 100%.
But in combination with nattokinase, gingko, omega 3, and Essential Daily Defense, I have not seen one case of embolism in atrial fibrillation in hundreds of patients. Nor have I seen any complications. You can read all about these supplements on my website.
If you choose to get off of coumadin, do not try to do it on your own. Work with an alternative-minded doctor to protect you with safer alternatives. Many people ask me what I would do for myself. My cocktail has a fine batting average of protection, so that is what I would do. While I cant guarantee it will continue at 100%, I do maintain that it encourages the body to optimize its clotting tendencies. Doing that should reduce the risk in most anyone, thick blood or not, without risk.
