The Overlooked Way to Prevent Eye Damage

Conventional medicine has long held that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) was simply a disease caused by aging (thus, the name). However, Ive seen such dramatic results with supplements that I knew diet had to play a factor. Well, new research shows just that.

The evidence comes from a growing association between diabetes and AMD. Science has known for some time that diabetes damages your eyes retina. We call this damage diabetic retinopathy. But now it appears that wild spikes in your blood sugar, which are common in diabetes, will damage your macula (the central part of your retina that you use for reading and seeing detail). And these wild spikes come from the food you eat.

When you eat high-glycemic carbs, it causes spikes in your blood sugar (rapid rises and falls), which lead to central vision loss. Central vision loss is one of the early signs of AMD. Researchers recently analyzed dietary intake and other data from more than 4,000 men and women aged 55 to 80. The study was part of the Age-Related Eye Disease Study.

This study confirms that little changes in your diet go a long, long way to preventing serious diseases. Please use this information to protect your eyes. The first step in any diet/lifestyle program is eliminate as much refined and processed foods as you can.
