CoQ10 is again making news as a premier anti-aging nutrient. Researchers recently conducted a rat study to determine the mechanisms by which dietary coenzyme Q10 prolongs lifespan.
The researchers gave the regular CoQ10. They all saw significant increases in serum albumin levels — which decrease with aging. And the levels remained high — at 6 and 24 months — as long as they took the nutrient.
They also found the CoQ10 reduced oxidative stress. It improved cardiovascular risk. It modulated inflammation. Inflammation is the underlying kingpin of degenerative diseases. And it improved several other major markers for health.
CoQ10 is one of my favorite nutrients. It is crucial to protect your energy furnaces (mitochondria). I like the newer formulation of CoQ10, called ubiquinol, as its more easily absorbed. Its available from Advanced Bionutritionals and online. For prevention, take 50 mg daily of ubiquinol. If you have any chronic degenerative problems, take 100 mg daily.
